The second Nordic-Irish Partnership event on Smart Cities focused on mobility innovation across four Nordic countries, Finland, Sweden, Norway and Denmark, and the island of Ireland.
Urbanisation, changing consumer expectations and emerging digital technologies, together with climate change, are driving a new sustainable mobility ecosystem, and setting the stage for innovation. The transport sector is at the beginning of a period of significant disruption, with new technologies, products and services emerging.
The focus of the webinar was on sustainable mobility ecosystems in cities, including Mobility as a Service (MaaS) and alternative fuels, and their role in contributing to the sustainable agenda. MaaS involves the integration of various forms of transport services into a single service that enables end-to-end trip planning. The way we power vehicles is also being transformed, with electric vehicles and the use of biogas and hydrogen as alternative fuels. As well as managing travel needs in a smarter and more efficient way, MaaS and the use of sustainable fuels are also more climate friendly. The aim was to showcase solutions and concepts, challenges and opportunities, and continue the Nordic-Irish dialogue we started last year.
