Cork City selected to participate in the European Commission’s 100 Intelligent Cities Challenge

Cork and Derry  havesuccessfully been selected as core cities to participate in the European Commission’s 100 Intelligent Cities Challenge (ICC) Programme. As a participants in this programme, both Councils will receive high quality, tailored guidance and capability building tools to drive policy goals. Through the ICC programme, they will explore how advanced technologies can be leveraged to achieve smart, sustainable growth.

The ICC presents a unique opportunity for EU cities to join a community that will collectively explore ways that smart and digital technologies and approaches can be implemented to tackle the pandemic crisis, helping to drive the recovery.

The ICC builds on the success of the Digital Cities Challenge (DCC), which helped 41 EU cities, including Cork, develop a collaborative vision and a roadmap for digital transformation with city stakeholders. The ICC aims to advance the work of the DCC and helps cities to improve the quality of life for citizens and create new opportunities for business communities.

Cork City Council’s application to the ICC programme was supported by the Nimbus Research Centre at Cork Institute of Technology.

The programme will be launched on the 28th September 2020. More information on the ICC and the other participating cities is available on the following website https://www.intelligentcitieschallenge.eu/
